Sarah Faust was born in Denver, Colorado. She received her BFA with distinction from the University of Kansas in Visual Communication and holds an MFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago, where she is Associate Professor of Instruction in Graphic Design.

Faust has worked as a Graphic Designer and Creative Director in a variety of environments; in Chicago design firms, including Liska and Associates, Design Kitchen, and Good Studio, a publications firm in Mexico, and in-house design offices, Interface Americas and Creative Services of Columbia College Chicago. Some of Faust’s design projects include the multi-faceted re-branding of Columbia College Chicago, including promotional materials for the recruitment of students, branded environment, brand standards, publications and artists’ books. Faust has won numerous awards for her design work from The Society of Typographic Arts, Print, and The Columbia Scholastic Press Association.

In her work with students, Sarah emphasizes the designer’s role as translator of raw content into clear and meaningful visual communication. She enjoys discourse with her students and is continuously inspired by their energy, innovation, and wit.

Faust’s photographic work is in the permanent museum collections. Notable exhibitions include solo shows at the Chicago Cultural Center, the International Museum of Surgical Science, and Trish Higgins Fine Art. Group shows include the Evanston Biennial and exhibitions at Stephen Daiter Gallery, Catherine Edelman Gallery, David Weinberg Gallery, and Filter Photo Festival, and recently the Hokin Gallery, Glass Curtain Gallery, and Shop Columbia on Columbia’s campus. Her photography has been published in books and online. She received Illinois Arts Council Fellowships in 2005 and 2009.
